Judy Brindel has been a Happy Wheels volunteer since 2009. She serves as a hospital volunteer at MUSC and Prisma—Midlands. She has voluntarily served as the organization’s bookkeeper since its inception in 2012 and is Secretary/Treasurer for Happy Wheels’ board of directors. She volunteers as a guest speaker as needed and at all fundraising events to share Happy Wheels with others.
Judy received a degree from the University of SC and worked in accounting for 17 years before returning to school at Midlands Technical College to pursue a degree in computer programming. She was a systems analyst, specializing in accounting programs with SC National Bank until it moved from Columbia to Atlanta. Judy is married and they have 5 grown children and 10 grandchildren.
Judy has first-hand knowledge of the value of someone coming into the hospital room to allow a child and their family to have a happy moment. Her granddaughter was born premature, was airlifted to the NICU in Chapel Hill, NC, and spent several months there where they did not know anyone. The hours, standing by the crib really takes a toll on the whole family. Just a small toy or book and a friendly smile from a volunteer can make such a difference in those long days.
